2011 Manhattanhenge

All photos are taken on E. 34th St., between Madison and 5th Ave. About 7:15-7:20pm I came out of the subway at 33rd and Park to see rain falling! I did not expect that. A photographer colleague who works with me at Agence France-Presse called from 42nd Street inside a building to ask if I could see the sun at all. When it stopped raining, I saw high clouds but the horizon was clear, so we had hope to see the sun set. I walked west from Park Ave to see where the Empire State Building would look best, turns out the ideal angle was in the middle of the block.

The Empire State Bldg photo was taken with a Nikon D3S with a 16-35mm lens, I think set about 20mm. Others were with a Nikon D3 and a 70-200mm lens.
