Looking skyward on the evening of Nov 9, with thick, daunting, clouds looming overhead, many New Yorkers wondered if their evening under the stars would be lost. But, the obscured night sky was no match for the determined AAA observers, led by veteran Michael O’Gara, and the volunteers and members that came to Central Park to support this important yearly event. Despite the chilly weather and an occasional glimpse of the Moon, Starfest went on, and hundreds of New Yorkers thronged onto Sheep Meadow, hoping to catch a glimpse of the stars above. Limited visibility did not deter organizer Susan Andreoli from bringing together Al Nagler, founder of TeleVue Optics, Mike Peoples of Adorama, Sara Scoles of Astronomy Magazine, and Mike Dzurny of Meade Instruments to address the crowd and discuss astronomy. Raffles were held, prizes distributed, and free gift bags presented to all. — Evan Schneider
