AAA Observing in Fort Greene

Venus During The Day – taken by Michelle Hewryk with her iPhone in Fort Greene on 3/8/17

The AAA holds public observing sessions on Monday evenings, once a month in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn, timed to coincide with the appearance of the quarter to full moon.

We observe on the north side of Lafayette Avenue, just east of where it intersects with Fulton Street.  The site is right across the street from a small triangle-shaped park, and for the present, at least, has an unobstructed view of the southern sky.

The currently scheduled dates are below.  Other dates will be added as the year progresses:

2017 Observing Dates

Thursday, April 6

Thursday, May 11

Thursday, June 1

Wednesday, June 7

Since the Moon will be in the sky on the dates above, all stargazing sessions will begin shortly before sundown and go until 10:00 PM (or later if there are people waiting to look through our scopes).

Weather Prospects

Cancellations due to weather will be posted on the AAA Google Calendar and the AAA Facebook page. You can expect it to be canceled if the clouds are thick or if it’s raining. Let’s hope for clear skies!
